Any Joshua Tree voter may run for the Joshua Basin Water District Board of Directors. General elections are held every two years on the even years. A full term is four years.
If there is a vacancy, or if someone appointed to fill a vacancy has more than a year remaining in his term, there will also be a 2-year seat to be filled.
When both 2-and 4-year seats are open, candidates must decide for which term they will run. Candidates run at large so the candidates(s) who receive the most votes for the available term(s) win.
In the event of a mid-term seat vacancy, those interested in this board vacancy may:
- Apply to be appointed to the vacated seat by the remaining four-member Board.
- Run for office should the Board choose to hold a special election.
- Apply to be appointed to the vacated seat by the County Board of Supervisors, if the remaining Board members chose not to select the candidate themselves.
Candidates should be aware that if the unexpired term is longer than a year, in order to retain their seat they will have to run at the next election.
