To start service, you will need to fill out the water service application including your social security number and a photocopy of a valid driver’s license or Government issued state I.D. We will input your information into our system, which will verify your identity and review your credit history in order to waive your deposit (if possible).
What if I don’t feel comfortable providing my social security number?
We cannot require a social security number but you will need to come into the office in person with your I.D. and a deposit will be required.
Will the credit check affect my credit score?
No, this type of credit check is considered a “soft hit” inquiry and is similar to what a bank does when you open a bank account.
I’ve been a customer for a long time and have multiple accounts. Why do you need to check my identity?
As a creditor under the Red Flag Rule, Joshua Basin Water District is required to perform this check. The Red Flag Rule is a Federal Law and in place to mitigate identity theft for all of our customers.
